Dumpling Happy New Year website

Gong Hey Fat Choy!  Happy Chinese New Year!

Are you ready for the Year of the Fire Monkey?  I certainly am.  In fact as I write these musings, I’m sprawled in exhaustion from cleaning the last bits of Wood Sheep energy from my house!  It’s just one of the many rituals I do to focus my intent on the New Year.  Why?  Because coordinating mindful action with a significant occasion leads to powerful and meaningful results!

I even coordinated my writing progress so I could finish the first half of my Call Me Dumpling novel in the Year of the Sheep and begin the second half in the Year of the Monkey!  It felt auspicious to me, especially since this is the Chinese zodiac year for both of Dumpling’s parents.

Coordinating projects (or major life-changes) to auspicious dates helps us transition from a feeling of accomplishment into a new phase with discipline, inspiration, and momentum.

If you’ve read any of my Mindful Musings, you know that I pay attention such things.  I look for meaningful coincidences as cues that I am on the right track or that something significant has just occurred that merits my attention.  I meditate with mantras and mudras to focus my intent.  I infuse objects (malas, stones, jewelry, etc.) with meaning and past experiences so I can tap back into that energy when I need it.  And—as in Chinese New Year—I follow cultural rituals and even create some of my own to heighten my awareness of the occasion.

So, here’s to a happy and prosperous New Year.  Fill your home with tangerines and oranges for prosperity, eat some lucky noodles, share some of your fortune with others, and get ready for an exciting year!
